The Attorney General's race in Maryland is heating up. With longtime AG Joe Curran announcing his retirement, two Democrats have already thrown their hat in the ring. They are a Spitzeresque progressive
Tom Perez and a moderate DLC Democrat,
Doug Gansler.
Now, a third candidate is testing the waters -- Baltimore attorney Stu Simms. Simms was running for Lt. Governor as Doug Duncan's running mate until Duncan
dropped out. Simms is getting some early support -
from a pro-death penalty Republican:
"I want him to run," O'Connor said. "I think he'd be great."
Members of the state Senate began a movement to draft Simms on Friday after Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan dropped his race for governor.
...O'Connor, a tough prosecutor known for seeking the death penalty more often than any other Maryland state's attorney
We don't need another pro-death penalty pseudo-Democrat. Let's hope that Simms doesn't jump into this race. What do you all think?
